How To Draw A Chipmunk Easy

Nature's cutest creation – here in this lesson, let's go ahead and draw an adorable little cartoon chipmunk – one that's safe-guarding a pile of acorns.

Looking at an image of the real thing, the trick in creating a cartoonified version – in the end anyway…

Was to mimic its fur patterns (the white and dark stripes on its back, and the white on its face for example)…

In order to make sure that it could be easily distinguished from other rodent-like animals, like for example – a squirrel or a rat.

Anyway, here's how the lesson unfolds…

How to Draw a Cartoon Chipmunk

Keeping things nice and simple, I decided to start our animal character off – with a very easy-to-work-with framework, one that's composed of just a couple circles.

Of course – only use this as it helps.

The whole idea here, is to set in place form ahead of time, so we can more freely be expressive, as we move on forward and draw.

And yes, purple circles for acorns…

Framework for drawing a cartoon chipmunk

Fading out our framework lines (if of course you decided to use one) – next…

Go ahead and begin your drawing, starting with the nose and left eye area of your cartoon chipmunk.

The head of the animal is turned slightly to the left (your right) – and so – the cross in the top circle, can really help to indicate the position of various features of the face.

Like so…

More on the face of our cartoon chipmunk – next…

Go ahead and sketch in the rest of the eyes (taking into account the 3/4 turn). Oh, and don't forget a nice big curve, indicating that yes – our chipmunk – has already stored a few of those acorns.

Here's how it looks…

More on the head of our chipmunk…

Go up and sketch around the perimeter, starting with its left ear.

Then, move right on down to the left foot and tail – drawing first of course – that which appears closest to the eye of the observer (you!)…

With the head pretty much finished now, sketch in the other ear – and then…

Go on to create various curved lines – those which bring out the left arm, the back, and more of the tail of our cartoon chipmunk.

Here's how things are looking…

Finishing touches and details coming up!…

Next up, sketch in the inner parts of the ears, the left hand of your cartoon chipmunk – and also, as indicated by the purple circle(s)…

Go ahead and draw the first nut, in the pile of acorns.

Like so…

And yes, do go ahead and draw in the rest of the acorns in the pile. It's actually not so difficult, if you use the exact same formula that you used to draw the first one, purple circles as your placeholders.

Here it is…

And minus the framework lines – our cartoon chipmunk character is *just about* complete.

And finally, here we are at the very last step – a splash of color to reveal a cartoon character, with a likeness to the real thing.

And, in the very end – yet again…

We've created another cute-looking cartoon animal for the sketchbook.

I hope you enjoyed this lesson, and of course – as always…

See you super soon for another!
